Wikipedia and World War II

Use these questions to facilitate learning associated with Wikipedia's
article on World War II.
1. According to the first paragraph more than 70 million people
were killed during World War II. Just because the authors/editors of
this article list this number does not make it correct. Conduct a
Google search and see how many different answers exist as to the
number of deaths that occurred during World War II. (Identify your
sources of information.) Why do you think that this number varies?
2. Define the following terms:
A. Axis
B. Allies
C. September 1, 1939
D. August 15, 1945
3. How much do you trust the information that you used to
identify the terms from the above list? Why do you have this amount
of trust? What can you do to increase the amount of trust that you
have in these definitions?
4. Take a look at the table of contents included with this article.
Select one content section. Ask a question about the section that you
will attempt to answer as you read the section. Write down this
question. Now read the section and answer the question. After you
have completed this work, find three students who have answers
questions about other content sections. Share your work with one
another.
5. Extend your research. Ask one question that you would like to
investigate further. Use the Internet to conduct the research
necessary to answer this question. As you conduct your research
complete the following chart:
